The parish was created when two parishes St Peter Chanel Te Rapa and St Joseph’s Fairfield were combined in 2019.

Parish of the Holy Cross Hamilton
This new Parish unit was created 1 April 2019 by Decree of the Bishop of Hamilton, The Parish of the Holy Cross was brought about by the coming together of two parish communities of St Joseph and St Peter Chanel. Both of these communities were founded in the 1950’s as the City expanded and a general increase in priestly numbers meant that there were spare priests available to establish new parishes. These excess numbers of priests has reversed itself and now it makes sense to bring together the administrative functions under one umbrella: hence the New Parish. The Saints gathered under the shade of the Tree of Life- The Holy Cross.

The mission of the Church has always been to live the hope found in Jesus. We are called to go and MAKE disciples, BAPTISE them and TEACH them to keep the Commands of Jesus. Love God, Worship him alone. Love Neighbour and care for the orphan and Widow. In the modern world that takes Time, effort and money. Your Generosity to this little branch of the Vine, the Tree of Life will enable us to live more effectively the Mission Jesus has entrust us to do.
